Dear Friend of EarthAction,
While politicians in Washington continue to squabble over the ‘fiscal cliff’, humankind is fast approaching the far more dangerous ‘resource cliff’.
It is a fact that we humans are currently using more resources than our planet can produce. Humanity is leading an absolutely unsustainable existence. Every year, the planet Earth has the capacity to produce a certain amount of resources, and on a certain day in the annual calendar, human kind manages to surpass this amount. Humanity enters into “deficit spending” of natural resources.
This annual, frightening day is known as Ecological Debt Day. On December 7, in 1990, the Earth had reached its “overshoot” and Ecological Debt Day was first observed. This year, the day has receded in the calendar. Each year it arrives earlier and earlier, with humans using more than the planet can bear even quicker; our consumption and practices are draining the planet away.
Today, we ask you to give to EarthAction so we can give even more back to the world. We have our collective debt to nature, and EarthAction is committed to paying it back.

Let's start paying back the debt. Donate now: http://www.earthaction.org/donate.html
Since EarthAction was founded twenty years ago, we have worked hard to see that effective and meaningful action is taken by citizens all around the planet to create a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. Today, we continue to pursue this goal. Many problems have been solved, and our campaigns continue to have a positive impact.
In 2012 we helped to save over 100,000 acres of rainforest in the heart of Cambodia, a forest with one of the highest carbon sequestration values in the region. But so much more still remains to be done. EarthAction stands out because we do not only educate and raise awareness. We give people tools to actually influence policies, right injustices, push for sustainability, save lives, and take immediate actions to prevent catastrophes.
Hope is not lost. Ecological Debt Day is a reminder that we must work harder. Give back to the world through EarthAction: http://www.earthaction.org/donate.html
Let’s pay this debt back together. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Executive Director, EarthAction
